We does Micardis work?
The active substance Telmisartan acts on the blood pressure regulation system of the body, the so-called Renin-Angiotensin-aldosterone-System (RAAS). He docks instead of the body’s Angiotensin II to the Angiotensin II Receptor. As a result, the body’s own blood will prevent the pressure rising effect of the Angiotensin-II.
Normally, the vessels will be provided by the action of Angiotensin II, which leads to an increase in blood pressure. In addition, Angiotensin II causes the electrolytes to be kept sodium and potassium in the body and not excreted. As a result, more water remains in the body, which in turn leads to an increase in blood pressure. Angiotensin II also in the tissue, the cells multiply and the thrombocytes (blood platelets) to accumulate, which increases the risk for heart attacks or strokes.
Telmisartan in Micardis blocks the effect of Angiotensin II on the Angiotensin II Receptor and has a relatively long-lasting effect. It thus causes primarily a dilatation of the vessels and a drop in blood pressure. The active ingredient has but platelets also have an impact on electrolyte excretion and on the accumulation of the blood.
What Micardis Plus is?
If the blood pressure is not due to the drug Micardis in the normal set values, is a combination of Micardis with hydrochlorothiazide (HCT). This combination is available as Micardis Plus.
For patients with an increased risk for cardiovascular disease, a dosage of 80 mg Telmisartan plus 12.5 mg HTC is recommended daily. Already disorders of the liver function should be available, may not be taken more than 40 mg Micardis per day. The Micardis tablets are divisible, so that only half of the tablet can be taken.
Is Micardis available over the counter?
Micardis is over the counter for sale. It can only be in pharmacies upon presentation of a doctor-issued prescription, complications can accept in very rare cases, difficult gradients. Therefore, it is important that a doctor checks the need for additional revenue, and in the case of the important contraindications to the ingestion of another drug to prescribe.
When should Micardis be taken?
Micardis should not be taken if you are allergic to the active ingredient of Temisartan, or any of the other ingredients of the tablet. Since Micardis is metabolized in the liver, it should also not be taken in severe liver function disorders, for example, by biliary obstruction or cholestasis.
Micardis must not be taken from the fourth month of pregnancy, because it is detrimental to the Embryo. It is partially fetal renal function disorders, but also stillbirths and death in the neonatal period with the use of blood pressure have been observed in the core of the same class. Therefore, it should be used in pregnancy to better-tolerated and better-studied substances such as Alpha-Methyldopa and Metoprolol.
When must be observed when taking Micardis?
If renal impairment exists, should Micardis be taken carefully, since it can come to disturbances of the electrolyte balance, especially potassium. This must be checked by regular Blood sampling. Also in the case of Diabetes, the blood must be checked regularly. When heart disease or a low blood be pressure should also be regular check-UPS by a doctor.
